About Us

Kelley Cote, a licensed agent at Hallmark, is a lifelong horse owner. She’s a two-time Blackhawk Appaloosa Association Horseman of the Year who’s enjoyed success showing as both a youth and non-pro. Over the years, she has won National and Reserve National Championship titles as well as multiple top-ten placings at both the National and World Championship Appaloosa shows and in the ApHC year-end standings. Her current show horses are Drew A Winning Straw (Bosco), a homebred gelding who has shown his versatility in hunter under saddle, saddle seat, speed and over fence classes, and Turbo Tonk (Ziggy), a youngster just starting his show career in the hunter classes. Kelley currently serves on both the Blackhawk Appaloosa Association and Long Creek ApHC board of directors, helping to organize and run their horse shows. It’s a great pleasure for her to help Hallmark customers find the best insurance solutions for their horses.

Valerie Mahala has over 20 years’ horse experience. She has successfully competed at local and rated shows, worked for FEI-level drivers in America and Europe, taught riding lessons to students of various ages and abilities, trained various breeds of horses, and was also a member of a 4-H club as a junior. As part of Valerie’s 4-H experience, she trained a pony from a newborn through breaking him under saddle. Valerie still owns Razz to this date, and he will have a forever home with her. Valerie rode on her University’s Equestrian Team while earning her Elementary Education degree. In her first year on the WCU Equestrian Team, Valerie was champion at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) regional horse show in Novice Equitation on the Flat. This placing qualified her for Zones, where she placed 5th on the flat. She also rode in the Tournament of Champions held at Centenary College and placed 5th in Novice Equitation Over Fences. This helped the WCU Equestrian Team place 9th overall out of 26 top equestrian teams on the East Coast, their first finish in the top 10 in many years. Valerie’s background as a hunter rider, driving groom, 4-H graduate, instructor, trainer gives her the knowledge to talk to you, one horse lover to another, to ensure the best for your equine partner.

Every organization needs that special behind-the-scenes person who acts as the glue to hold everything together. Hallmark couldn’t run so smoothly without Mary. Mary is our Radar O’Reilly—she keeps everyone else organized and on the ball, and she knows where to find anything we need. Mary is creative and detail-oriented, skills she uses at work and for her hobby of scrapbooking. She is also a Disney World devotee, having visited at least once during each of the last 20-plus years. However, she’s keeping the identity of her favorite Disney horse a secret.
